Difference between Inductive & Deductive approach

We often hear about the terms like inductive approach, deductive approach but little we know is the subtle detail in their meaning that they carry.
One or two question are asked every year in exam from this particular topic.
Here is a difference between Inductive and Deductive approach used in teaching as well as learning.

 Inductive Approach Deductive Approach
Specific example or activities ---> Generalization   (rule) Generalization (rule) ---> Specific example or   activities
Helps in the generation of new theory ( Method of   discovery) Tests already given theory ( Method of   verification)
It is a slow process. It is a quick process.
It is upward process of thought and leads to useful   results. It is downward process of thought and leads   to useful results.
It trains the mind and gives self- confidence and   initiative. It encourages dependence on other sources.
It is method of teaching. It is method of instruction.
It is full of activity. There is less scope of activity in it.
Child acquires first hand knowledge and information   by actual observation. Child gets ready made information and make   use of it.
A collection of qualitative data. A collection of quantitative data.

E.g. A teacher told students to write the squares of first 10 natural numbers and categories the answers to odd and even categories.

  ODD  EVEN
 1 1    2  4
 3 9 416
 5 25 6 36
 7 49 8 64
 9 81 10 100

Then she asked them to tell what type of number (odd or even) they have got when they squared an even number.
The children replied that they have got an even number. And similarly squaring odd number given an odd result. Thus children learned the new concept that squaring an odd numbers gives odd answer and squaring an even number gives even answer.
Q- In above example, What type of approach is used by teacher?
1) Inductive
2) Deductive
